Seems most if not all brands will reflect the sun off the emitter and cause some sort of an issue. In my experience the SRO will show multiple dots but they seem to be separate dots and may be easier to tell the difference between the two. While the DPP seems to just light up a large portion of the lens and it’s more difficult to be able to find the right dot/spot to use for aiming. I’ve only had it happen a time or two during a match but it’s been inconvenient. Early morning and bays facing east do not play well with dots.
The
Vortex Defender-CCW red dot provides excellent visibility in direct, bright sunlight, featuring 8 to 10 daylight-specific brightness settings depending on the model (standard vs. enclosed solar).
Users report the dot remains bright and clear, even when facing the sun directly.
Performance in Sunlight
- Visibility: The 3 or 6 MOA dot is designed to be highly visible against bright backgrounds.
- Brightness Adjustments: The optic features 10 total settings (8 daylight/2 NV) for the standard model, or 12 total (10 daylight/2 NV) for the Enclosed Solar model.
- Bright Sun Settings: Users have found that settings 5-6 are sufficient for high-afternoon sun.
Additional Features
- Durability: Features a hard-anodized, low-glare finish and a ruggedized structure.
- Dot Clarity: The optic uses high-quality glass to minimize distortion.
- Battery Life: The standard model offers approximately 9,500 hours on setting 6, while the solar model features a side-mounted tray.
