There may have been a time in my life many years ago (maybe oil shortage "crisis") as a youngster that I thought we use up theirs first then we'll be sitting pretty. In other words, I knew even then that we have lots of resources. The oil shortage was merely geo-political theater.
Just as I know NIMBY plays a big part in US domestic policy. Keep America beautiful while strip mining elsewhere.
I read someplace it takes 29 years to get approvals to open a new mine in the US. That is some real red tape. We **** ourselves all the time.
Because we've had access to places elsewhere so long we've taken so much for granted.

There's a new weapon that is very cheap - a dollar per "bullet" - that the US is allegedly developing. It uses lasers. And it can supposdely put up a star trek style shield against anything incoming. I saw a video about it - I'll try to find it.
