IN May 1942 at the Battle of the Coral Sea, the CV5, the USS Yorktown was hit buy multiple Japanese bombs and left for dead. Twice.
She managed to get back to Pearl Harbor and Admiral Nimitz informed the repair crews they had 3 days to repair her and have her ready for battle. 72 hours later, she rolled out of Pearl, heading to Midway Island to face the Japanese on June 5th in a surprise attack on all 4 of their fleet carriers. Not only did she contribute, but her Avenger dive bombers were responsible for the sinking of 3 of the 4 carriers.
Later, she was ALSO hit again and still, crews put out the fires and had her operational for another series of attacks on the Japanese carrier Hiryu. She was hit again by bombs and her Admiral was forced to leave her as his flag ship. Later the next day, crews boarded her to attempt repairs and a Japanese sub managed to hit her with a torpedo and she was left to sink with damage beyond repair.
PLEASE, SHUT THE **** UP and stop rooting for the ENEMY!! Americans WIN. Even when battle scarred and in tough situations. This fire on the USS Ford will NOT keep her out of the battle NOR unable to return in a few days. And our ability to find any mines has NOT be diminished in any manner as the plans to mothball our existing minesweepers was put in motion YEARS ago. As was the development of others methods to take care of mines.
