James Talarico, a Texas Democratic politician and U.S. Senate candidate, has made several controversial quotes about religion, race, and gender that have drawn national attention. 
Because his political identity heavily focuses on progressive Christianity, many of his most famous quotes involve using the Bible to challenge traditional conservative views. 

Quotes on Religion and Gender

• "God is non-binary."
  • Talarico said this during a 2021 Texas House floor speech to oppose a bill banning transgender kids from sports. He argued that God is both masculine and feminine and everything in between.
• "Trans children are God's children, made in God's own image."
  • He said this during the same 2021 speech. Critics labeled the stance as too radical, while supporters praised it as inclusive.
• "Jesus Christ himself was a radical feminist."
  • He made this claim during a church sermon while discussing the inclusive teachings of Jesus. 

Quotes on Abortion

• "God asks for Mary's consent..."
  • During a 2025 appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Talarico tried to make a biblical case for abortion. He stated that the Angel Gabriel asked Mary for her permission before the incarnation, which he argued proves that creation requires consent.
