2019 Migrant Deal...Mexico initially refused to accept U.S. demands to stop migrant caravans. Trump threatened escalating tariffs on Mexican exports. Within days, Mexico agreed to deploy
6,000 National Guard troops to its southern border and expand “Remain in Mexico” asylum protocols.
2025 Tariff Threats...Trump invoked emergency powers to impose
25% tariffs on Mexican goods unless Mexico acted against cartels and illegal migration. Mexico publicly rejected the idea, but then took “immediate steps” to cooperate, leading Trump to pause the tariffs.
2026 Cartel Pressure...Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum dismissed Trump’s talk of U.S. strikes against cartels as “foreign intervention.” But behind the scenes, officials began tightening cooperation to avoid unilateral U.S. action after seeing Trump oust Venezuela’s Maduro.
Mexico will SHUT THE **** UP and do what TRUMP says...................
