I have been on both sides of this. I'm Gen X. When I was young I worked odd jobs, waiter, salesman, warehouse work, loading UPS trucks, etc. I was struggling to finish University, not because is was necessarily difficult, but because of how much it cost, and my parents stopped helping and "kicked me out of the house". Mentality, you're over 18 you're an adult. Some years, later on, I finally got a position a software company. But more as a administrator. The pay was ok, but the hours were extremely long, sometimes, 12 hour days. During the next 15 years I worked in 3 different software companies, and I as I changed jobs got better and better pay. My last job, was the best pay but extremely stressful, constant politics in the office, etc. So I lef to try to go freelance. Freelancing did not work out. So long story short I ended up as a plumber and electrician. And now, no joke, make much more money than I ever did in software. But I work for myself not for company. The problem with especially plumbing is it's extremely dirty, frustrating work, old pipes can break, you have to demolition walls, etc. and physically it drains you. I don't recommend the trades, but do recognize, you can at least make the same money as software and many cases more. The problem is NOT University vs Trades. It is Elite vs The rest of us. Many Elite don't go to college, or get a degree without studying(true), but get placed into high paying jobs because of nepotism. When I worked in software, I say many of these nepotism babies. They couldn't program, they did not understand anything about technology, but were making double my wage, and were "Project Managers",Executives,etc.. Lol Project Manager = knows nothing, looks at FB all day, and gets a huge wage. You should really look into how the world Really works No matter the university degree, you are not going to get the highest paying position unless you are one of "them"
