I am aware that the NYT did not hold back on one of her other books, The Look.
I am also aware that millions of copies of the one we are discussing were bought in bulk.
The NYT held back on that one - perhaps because the individual sales were as large as claims, perhaps because they feared a clintoning.
I trust Eudora Welty's word in the matter.
