204 House Democrats did not sign the open pledge circulated by centrist lawmakers.
Out of the
212 Democratic members in the U.S. House of Representatives, only
8 members signed the document.
The "open pledge" was launched by moderate House Democrats—spearheaded by Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) and Rep. Adam Gray (D-CA)—to distance the party from democratic socialist platforms. The statement asked members to formally back three main pillars:
- We are capitalist, not socialist.
- We want safety, not lawlessness.
- We are proud, not ashamed of America.
