Clips are used to feed cartridges into a guns magazine. You literally clip the cartridges to them. No moving parts. The M1 Garand I own uses clips. Old technology.
Magazines feed a cartridge into the firing chamber of a gun by pushing it up into the chamber by spring tension. Those black things that hang out of the bottom of the receiver on an AR? Magazines.
