Upon the liberation of Paris from the Germans, citizens chased down those suspected of "horizontal collaboration" with Nazis. Their heads were shaved, and they were paraded about town to bask in the contempt of their fellow Parisians.

Maybe...just maybe...part of the problem is the "I'm a smart bidness man" Zeitgeist that has turned more than half of America into idiotic drones who think the goal of government / political leaders should be nothing other than to maximize potential profit for corporations and slick conmen.
