(The Center Square) – Ten Democrats, including two women, were missing in action Wednesday as the Committee on the Judiciary of the U.S. Senate heard testimony and questioned witnesses on the protection of women’s sports.
What they missed were Kim Jones, a cofounder of ICONS, testifying how 44 states allow — in some cases within a day — changing birth certificates, and that a noninvasive, nonexpensive cheek swab test is best for legislation. They also missed William Bock III, a law partner at Kroger, Gardis & Regas in Indianapolis, taking NCAA President Charlie Baker to task because his organization of more than 240,000 women athletes fails in the language of its rule in addition to having no policy enforcement.
ICONS is the acronym for Independent Council on Women’s Sport.
There was more, almost all from Republicans. Democrats on the panel were absent sans Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., the minority party’s ranking member, and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., each present for less than the first hour and with only Durbin speaking.
