What I'm trying to understand is how separate income streams into a single household makes much difference if:
1. that income doesn't change (even S.S. COLA is completely inadequate).
2. wages are touted as the panacea to all the inflation problems (retired do not have wage increases).
3. your 8.3% interest earned isn't all that common (merely considered "plausible").
4. elders planning to keep savings intact forced into taking from accounts formerly out of reach of gubmint mitts.
(4. is what I was referring to when I posted "it ain't trapped anymore".)
Conflating isn't really what I'm doing...
1. It's called "fixed" for a reason.
2. No...it is not a panacea...it's a partial hedge...sometimes you beat inflation, other times you fall short.
3.The S&P 500 average annual return over the last 20 years is approximately
11.4% to 11.9% (with dividends reinvested). [

4. Makes no sense...qualified money (not Roth) is eventually subject to taxation, but you're only obliged to meet your annual.RMD. And you are taxed at your current rate.
