As of January 12, 2026, the title for the "most meth ever seized" depends on whether you are measuring finished crystal methamphetamine or the raw precursor chemicals used to manufacture it.
While viral reports in early 2026 claim a massive "52-ton" bust (approximately 104,000 lbs), these figures remain unverified by official government agencies. The current verified records for major busts are as follows:
1. Largest Seizure of Finished Methamphetamine
International Record: In September 2025, INTERPOL announced a massive coordinated operation that intercepted 51 metric tonnes (approximately 112,000 lbs) of methamphetamine across multiple countries. This included a record-shattering 297 million "yaba" meth pills.
U.S. Border Record: The largest single-point seizure in U.S. history occurred in February 2025 at the Laredo Port of Entry. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) discovered 13,101 pounds (6.5 tons) of methamphetamine hidden in a tractor-trailer.
U.S. Port/Joint Record: In 2019, a joint operation between U.S. and Australian authorities at the Port of Los Angeles seized 1.7 tons (3,810 lbs) of meth hidden inside audio speakers bound for Australia.
DEA Domestic Record: The largest domestic (non-border) seizure by the DEA was approximately 2,224 pounds (1.1 tons) in Perris, California, in October 2020.
2. Largest Seizure of Meth Precursor Chemicals
Because precursors are used to produce the finished drug, these busts often involve much higher weights:
Current Record (September 2025): U.S. authorities seized 300,000 kilograms (approximately 661,000 lbs) of meth precursor chemicals at the Port of Houston. The chemicals originated in China and were destined for the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico.
This single seizure contained enough material to produce an estimated 420,000 pounds of finished methamphetamine
