Plenty of stoping Power dont even have the Kick a 38 Revolver but a 9mm got much more POWER and Punch.

Ive put a 9mm Lugar through Brick 

Now there 2 different Rounds..

Full head at 115 grain..

Holllow Points are 145/157 Grain..

I find "Federal Ammunition" Cartriges most "Reliable' over all..

Brass BLazers a close 2nd.

I have Smith M&P.

9mm +p is the way to go.

9mm or 38 special is the absolute minimum you should be seeking for personal protection.

You still get about 9" of penetration.

By comparison, think about knife blade length restricted to 3 1/8" because longer means it becomes much more lethal. The vital organs come into the mix...

Being able to pump several rapid fire shots on targets at a home intruder that is standing 20 feet or less from you...is what we need.
Oldsters with crippled hands might consider a revolver.

I think a typical .380  takes 14 pounds of effort to rack....which is a little MORE than the 9
The spring [with the less powerful gun]  needs to be robust to get the gun to cycle reliably.
S&W has an auto called the EZ....which implies that it is EZ to rack. 
My local dealer claims they are troublesome though.

S & W makes a M & P 9 mm EZ Shield.  The slide is real easy to rack.

No, it's not.
But if you're like me, you can fire a Taurus Judge DA without a problem.
Women can't do that most of the time. Just like a S&W EZ ain't really that easy for them.

Been there with them to make a purchase. Glock .380 was the choice. G42.

I got the ez, no problems. 16 rounds on call. 

Revolver solves the whole problem.

I've had a revolver jam, which surprised me for sure. It was a S&W model 10 and I gave it back to the dealer.

I have a S&W Bodyguard 380. Works well and I only carry it when I don't dress well enough to carry my 1911 .45 ACP or the 9mm.
