AR-15 variants are numerous, stemming from the original ArmaLite design, and vary by manufacturer (Colt, Ruger, Daniel Defense), caliber (5.56mm, .300 BLK, 6.5 Grendel, etc.), barrel length (carbine, mid, rifle), and features (pistol, traditional rifle, etc.), creating a vast ecosystem of semi-automatic rifles based on the platform

Sorry, this thread is not about semi automatic sports rifles described as AR 15s.  It is about the power of the 30 06 round.  Go ahead and start a thread and tag me.

What was the exit wound like?

If the bullet stayed in the body, it wasn't much of a 30.06.
A friend of mine shot a deer from behind... The exit wound in the chest was the size of a fist.
The bullet went from asshole through chest. Gotta be four feet... And still blew through bone at the end.
Please seat yourself.

Why the Nate Higga?

I wanted to investigate the nucleonics of Flourine 18..  It is used in medical scans.

The shyt is HOT..   The half-life of Fluorine-18. It emits positrons...   I am not sure what those are, degreed and everything.
) is approximately 109.7 to 109.8 minutes (about 1.83 hours).

Fluorine-18 (

F) is a proton-rich, positron-emitting radioisotope crucial for PET scans, with 9 protons and 9 neutrons, decaying via beta-plus (

O) with a short half-life (~110 mins). Its instability (fewer neutrons than stable F-19) drives decay, producing positrons that annihilate to create detectable gamma rays, making it ideal for medical imaging tracers like FDG, due to its favorable nuclear properties and versatile chemistry.

Nuclear Characteristics
  • Composition: 9 protons, 9 neutrons (Mass Number 18).
  • Decay Mode: Primarily

  • Product: Decays to stable Oxygen-18 (

  • Half-Life: Approximately 109.8 minutes (just under 2 hours).
  • Energy: Emits low-energy positrons (max 0.635 MeV), resulting in high-resolution PET images.

Production & Application
  • Production: Artificially produced in cyclotrons, most commonly by bombarding Oxygen-18 enriched water with protons (the

  • Medical Use: The most common radionuclide in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging.
  • Tracers: Used to create radiopharmaceuticals like Fluorodeoxyglucose (

Radiochemistry
  • Versatility: Its chemistry allows it to be introduced into biomolecules via nucleophilic or electrophilic substitution.
  • Reactions: Common methods involve nucleophilic fluorination (SN2) using precursors with good leaving groups (like tosylates or halides).

A positron (\(e^{+}\) or \(\beta ^{+}\)) is the antimatter counterpart, or antiparticle, of an electron. While it shares several identical physical properties with an electron, its electrical charge is the exact opposite. Key characteristics of a positron include: Fundamental Properties Charge: It carries a positive electric charge (\(+1e\)), equal in magnitude but opposite in sign to the negative charge of an electron.Mass: It has the same mass as an electron, approximately \(9.109\times 10^{-31}\) kg (or \(0.511\) MeV/\(c^{2}\)). This makes it roughly 1,836 times lighter than a proton.Spin: It has a quantum spin of \(1/2\), identical to that of an electron.

Wow, I didn't know we actually used anti matter in medical scans.. I bet my associates test was not cheap. As I understand, the F18 is tagged to a genetic that seeks trouble and lights it up for detection.

@Nate Higgas  ..  I would appreciate if you consider my education level.   I have  a degree in Nuclear Engineering..  I couldn't take a bong on the submarine.
