Sometimes I wonder if it is worth helping dysfunctional societies when the reason why they are dysfunctional is because of their dysfunctional social norms. Women in Iran are viewed as property. They have very little rights. This is the way their society is with or without a repressive government. Let's say we help the people and overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran. Ali Khamenei gets ousted and the regime falls. Ok, so? Their government falling does not imply that their current social norms and expectations will fall along with it. They install a new government, and women are still treated as property. Nothing changed.
Sorry, but Article 8 of the US Constitution REQUIRES us to rescue Iranians from their terrible government.
