The Satanic panic is a moral panic consisting of over 12,000 unsubstantiated cases of Satanic ritual abuse (SRA), sometimes known as ritual abuse, starting in North America in the 1980s, spreading throughout many parts of the world by the late 1990s, and persisting today. The panic originated in 1980 with the publication of Michelle Remembers, a book co-written by Canadian psychiatrist Lawrence Pazder and his patient (and future wife), Michelle Smith, which used the controversial and now discredited practice of recovered-memory therapy to make claims about Satanic ritual abuse involving Smith. The allegations, which arose afterward throughout much of the United States, involved reports of physical and sexual abuse of people in the context of occult or Satanic rituals. Some allegations involve a conspiracy of a global Satanic cult that includes the wealthy and elite in which children are abducted or bred for human sacrifice, pornography, and prostitution.

Date: The wire transfer and delivery occurred in December 2018, which coincided with the timeline of a renewed federal investigation into Epstein.
Stated Purpose: Documents indicate the acid was intended for a reverse osmosis (RO) water purification system on the island, with invoices listing it alongside "materials for conductivity probes" and "replacement pH and cable".
Context: While the large,, specifically timed purchase caused online speculation regarding potential criminal use, similar, smaller orders for water treatment on the island had been documented as far back as 2013.
There is no official evidence in the released documents confirming the chemical was used for anything other than maintenance of the water system.

It is preferred for its lack of fumes and efficient, fast-acting, and cost-effective performance, but it is highly corrosive and adds sulfates, which can cause scaling.

Application: Primarily used to manage high pH and total alkalinity in commercial pools, it is also effective for acid washing.
Advantages over Muriatic Acid: It does not emit strong fumes, making it ideal for indoor, enclosed equipment rooms. It is often more cost-efficient in high-use, automated systems.
Risks and Disadvantages:
Scale Formation: Sulfuric acid adds sulfates to the water. Long-term use can build up sulfate levels, potentially causing stubborn calcium sulfate deposits.

Exothermic Reaction: It gives off heat when mixed with water.

Although some technicians prefer it, many argue that muriatic acid is superior for residential pools because it does not create the sulfate buildup associated with sulfuric acid.
