Iran has attacked US bases and we ARE a signatory of NATO's bi-laws.
Quite frankly, other nations participating are not needed and are often more of an impediment than an assistant, but such a decision could have wide ranging ramifications for the other member nations if Trump so chooses. And the first step he takes might just be the reduction of the overwhelming percentage of monetary support we provide for the group.
