Cesar Chavez Day renamed Farmworkers Day in California after Dolores Huerta and other women accuse the labor leader of sexual abuse.
Officials in multiple states are canceling events and working to strip the Latino labor leader's name from monuments following the allegations detailed in the New York Times. California lawmakers voted on Thursday to rename Cesar Chavez Day as Farmworkers Day in an effort to honor the movement led by the Latino labor icon without honoring the man himself — a man whose legacy has been upended by recent allegations of sexual abuse.

Cesar Chavez, the famed union leader and champion of farmworker rights, has been accused of sexually abusing two girls in the 1970s as well as Dolores Huerta, with whom he co-founded the United Farm Workers, in the 1960s, according to an investigation published by the New York Times.
