People are perfectly welcome to see the world as a dangerous place and to see America as the best option for top-dog status. I will disagree with them, but I certainly respect their right to their patriotism and best judgment. We CAN agree to disagree - working from the same set of facts. What I DON'T respect is anyone's right to argue the issues from the perspective of ignorant tourists who have put no thought or research into the issue, blithely uttering inanities and jutting their stupid little chins in defense of those inanities. OR thinking hasty googles quoting sources which they, themselves, do not respect is a proper replacement for actual knowledge of the issues.
The war against Russia was planned well in advance. In 2013, the Rand corporation published a paper titled, "Over-extending and unbalancing Russia. " Among many things discussed in the paper was providing lethal aid to Ukraine - which, at the time the paper was published, was on friendly terms with Russia, economically and socially, at the highest ministerial levels. So this call for "lethal aid" clearly envisioned a change in the Ukrainian government.

It is an easy skim - one can get the flavor very quickly: The US deep state was planning to destabilize Russia through myriad manipulations of the countries around it. Economic sanctions are discussed. Interfering in Russia's politics and in its neighbors' politics was discussed. Promoting protests, undermining Russia's image abroad, reposturing our strategic bombers to within easy striking range, reposturing our fighters to within easy striking range, deploying additional tactical nuclear weapons close to Russia, more drones, more spy planes, more long range missiles and aircraft, leaving the nuclear arms control treaty - all of thse things were suggested in the paper as ways to harry and over-extend Russia.
Using NATO to harry Russia in the black sea, increasing European NATO capabilities (spending), deploying large numbers of forces on the Russian border, holding military exercizes on Russia's frontiers - many other possible ways to harry Russia are discussed in the paper
In its conclusion, the paper recommends the following - and remember, this is published in 2013:
Expand U.S. energy production
Impose deeper trade and financial sanctions
Increase U.S. and allied naval force posture and presence
Reposture bombers
Invest more in autonomous or remotely piloted aircraft
Invest more in long-range strike aircraft and missiles
Invest more in longer-range HARMs (supersonic, air-to-surface tactical missile designed specifically to seek out and destroy enemy radar-equipped air defense)
Invest more in new electronic warfare technologies
If you look at America's moves against Russia since this paper was published, it's clear that Russia is being put on its back foot by the US deep state. But this doesn't bring us to the war in Ukraine. THAT bit of statecraft came in 2014, when the US deep state overthrew the government of Ukraine and planted an anti-Russian coup government in the previously neutral country.
What follows is the proof of that action by the state department under Hillary Clinton. In the tape, which the US State Department has confirmed is real, you will hear Clinton's top aid, Victoria Nuland, discussing the US backed coup with the Ambassador to Ukraine (CIA), deciding who will and who will not be allowed to serve in the coup government.

It is worth remembering that the deep state had already successfully fomented a war between Georgia and Russia back in 2008, so this move to destabilize Russia was not born in 2013. Indeed, the west's obsession with breaking up Russia is older than the United States. Russia beat Georgia in five days, but the war revealed humiliating weaknesses in the Russian military - weaknesses which the west mistook for static. In truth, the war with Georgia led to a top-down restructuring of the Russian military. The 32 nations warring against Russia in Ukraine were taken very much by surprise by Russia's rapid improvements. They had expected to fight the 2008 Russian military.
The 2014 US-engineered coup led to Russia immediately seizing its deep water port in Crimea. The people of Crimea voted overwhelmingly to join Russia and leave Ukraine, for some pretty obvious reasons:
1. The majority (65%+)were ethnic Russians
2. The minority were Tatars and Ukrainians.The Tatar minority were - like the Russians - seeing their language outlawed by the coup government. Their vote was a gimme.
Hasty googlers will point out that this election was not internationally monitored. Because that is what Microsoft's google gleefully tells them, exploiting their ignorant tourist level of awareness. What it will NOT tell them, unless they ask the right questions, is that major global bodies condemned the vote and explicitly refused to send monitors. The vote's outcome was a foregone conclusion, and the UN had already set the precedent in Serbia, with NATO's murderous air campaign backing that precedent up. So they were stuck with a fait accomplis and hoisted on their own Serbian petard. And their only defense against their own precedent was to refuse to monitor the election and then condemn it for being unmonitored. That's a nice can of sleaze, right there, and hasty googlers look sleazy when they hide behind it - even though in truth they are simply ignorant and easily gulled by google.

This report documents research and analysis conducted as part of the RAND Corporation research project Extending Russia: Competing from Advantageous Ground, sponsored by the Army Quadrennial Defense Review Office, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff G-8,Headquarters, Department of the Army. The purpose of the project was to examine a range of possible means to extend Russia. By this, we mean nonviolent measures that could stress Russia’s military or economy or the regime’s political standing at home and abroad. The steps we posit would not have either defense or deterrence as their prime purpose, although they might contribute to both. Rather, these steps are conceived of as measures that would lead Russia to compete in domains or regions where the United States has a competitive advantage, causing Russia to overextend itself militarily or economically or causing the regime to lose domestic and/or international prestige and influence. The recommendations for chapter 3 include among other things "stopping" Nordstream 2 (the pipeline that was blown up). The focus is on using any and every aspect of America's might to force the Europeans to purchase gas from the USA instead of Russia - even though they are our "allies" and they would have the pay three times as much, which would cripple their economy.

You can see where this is going. If you have hung in this far, you will likely peruse this paper on your own. If you do, you may make whatever conclusions you wish about the propriety and sagacity of American policy. I personally abhor it. You might feel very differently. But at least we will be arguing from facts and not propaganda.
Another area that the tourists should look into, if they don't want to remain tourists, is the big treaty of perpetual freindship between Russia and Ukraine. It was predicated on Ukraine honoring its Constitutional obligation of perpetual military neutrality (think Switzerland). The shallow and ignorant complaint that Ukraine "gave up its nukes" and then "got invaded for no reason" is exposed for silliness if one reads a basic summary of what the peaceful relations between Ukraine and Russia were based on. Ukraine was that giant stop sign of perpetual neutrality which was intended to be a buffer preventing any accidental military mixups between East and West. It was never countenanced by Russia, when it gave the Ukrainians a state in 1991 for the first time in their history, that Russia was agreeing to NATO missiles on its borders.

IN FINE, the war ostensibly between Russia and Ukraine is in truth a proxy war between Russia and the US plus allies. Russia did not solicit this war, and Russia is in fact being over-extended by this war. They were forced to lose in Syria, and now a murderous psychopathic ISIS leader runs Syria, to the detriment of its millions of Orthodox Christians, whom Assad was protecting.
The big surprize was Russia's survival under the current regime. The west had intended to feast on Russia. Instead, the US is cannibalizing Europe.
As much as I disagree with those "My mother drunk or sober" types who side with the US as the lesser evil (the lesser evil that mocks God by insisting men can "become" women), I have room for their perspective - just not for their ignorance. That is why I produced this thread. To identify the wilfully ignorant so that I can just cuss their hor mothers instead of entertaining their downs syndrom arguments.

So this call for "lethal aid" clearly envisioned a change in the Ukrainian government.

It is an easy skim - one can get the flavor very quickly: The US deep state was planning to destabilize Russia through myriad manipulations of the countries around it. Economic sanctions are discussed. Interfering in Russia's politics and in its neighbors' politics was discussed. Promoting protests, undermining Russia's image abroad, reposturing our strategic bombers to with easy striking range, reposturing our fighters to within easy striking range, deploying additional tactical nuclear weapons close to Russia, more drones, mor spy planes, more long range missiles and aircraft, leaving the nuclear arms control treaty - all of thse things were suggested in the paper as ways to harry and over-extend Russia.
Using NATO to harry Russia in the black sea, increasing European NATO capabilities (spending), deploying large numbers of forces on the Russian border, holding military exercizes on Russia's frontiers - many other possible ways to harry Russia are discussed in the paper
In its conclusion, the paper recommends the following - and remember, this is published in 2013:
Expand U.S. energy production
Impose deeper trade and financial sanctions
Increase U.S. and allied naval force posture and presence
Reposture bombers
Invest more in autonomous or remotely piloted aircraft
Invest more in long-range strike aircraft and missiles
Invest more in longer-range HARMs (supersonic, air-to-surface tactical missile designed specifically to seek out and destroy enemy radar-equipped air defense)
Invest more in new electronic warfare technologies

But this doesn't bring us to the war in Ukraine. THAT bit of statecraft came in 2014, when the US deep state overthrew the government of Ukraine and planted an anti-Russian coup government in the previously neutral country.
