The Russians provided aid to Syria to prevent a takeover by ISIS - which the United States assisted in occuring. Now, without the protection of al Assad, the Christians in Syria are being murdered. Which is precisely what everyone knew would happen.

Technically, yes - Wagner is a "proxy" for Russia, in that it is furthering Russia's aims and is not Russia. But the actors are mercenaries. They are being paid for this. No one is pretending that Russia has no hand in it - including Russia.
This is a very different thing than hijacking a country - something you and I agree the US did in Ukraine - and expending its citizens like so many disposable bic lighters to accomplish DC's aims, then throwing the broken rump state aside. There are simply very different things. Equating them is dishonest.
