Automotive manufacturers want to stop this from passing so they can prevent small independent mechanics from getting the diagnostics needed to fix modern vehicles.
Cars are rolling computers and only dealerships have access to proprietary data. Just like specialized fasteners that must be purchased through OEM sources, computer data forces the same restrictions. Only in this case, the independents cannot even diagnose in the first place, much less affect a repair.

Yeah, local repair guy keeps bringing that up…the problem is, manufacturers don’t have the infrastructure to be able to repair every vehicle…

John Deere found that out with pissed off farmers…

I had an issue with the wife’s DEF system 1.5 hrs from home headed out of state with a flatbed…called dealer because of threats going into limp mode. One dealer was 3 weeks out and the other was 2…WTF?

luckily, I found a repair place that was able to assess…it was a **** software update…luckily, an entrepreneur they knew, saw the potential and started an automotive software update company purchasing the rights from manufacturers…1 day and $800 later, I was headed out of state…

It took a month for a farmer to diagnose and fix a 150$ switch in his John Deere Combine.. He lost 300K$ in lost harvest.

Just getting a NAV system update is over $100.

I get system updates for my phone and desktop computers all the time that just get sent for free and basically without my involvement at all.
How is a digital map and GPS update worth $100+...?

the wife purchased a new Mazda 2 yrs ago. It comes with a 3 yr warranty…after that expires, the cruise control becomes “subscription based”…

when will people stand for the act of repairing their own things instead of the marketplace demanding nobody can fix their own purchases.

Isn't that economic servitude on the consumer just another form of tyranny by ruling elites capitalizing off reasonable doubt justification in life?

I got a recall done on the power train in the truck..

Now I have squiggly wheels lit up on the dash and the cruise control stopped working.

  The squiggly wheels light is the traction control is off. Cruise probably only works when the traction control is enabled. They probably jacked up a sensor when they worked on the drive train.

I can turn it off.  But it is permanently activated.  Yeah they jacked my control computer up.

I have had a replace fuel cap light and a fuel cap on the dash for months.  Grey and somewhat cool here today.  Maybe I can get some things done and reboot the system.  This rag can eat up a lot of time, but the geriatric retireded schedule is hard to get used to and I am napping and sleeping a whole lot more lately...

I can't even watch the youtube blurbs anymore..  Life is a blur at the moment.  At least I am not hungover this am.  I am on Bill's path back to AA..  Xizues Xrist.

Most likely didn't plug in a connection to the sensor, wire broke or grounded or short circuited, or you are making this **** up for attention. You are supposedly a very smart engineer and you cannot figure out engineered outcomes so far? Your brain isn't navigating evolving in plain sight living in a series parallel environment.

Not as smart as you pretend to have become after birth.
