The percentage of an average American family’s disposable personal income spent on groceries (food at home) has steadily declined over the decades, dropping from 11.0% in 1965 down to 4.8% in 2025.
Groceries vs. Total Food Budgets

Economists evaluate food budgets using data from the USDA Economic Research Service across two categories: Food at Home (groceries bought at stores) and Food Away From Home (restaurants, fast food, and schools).
The historical breakdown shows a clear shift in how families allocate their budgets:
YearGroceries Only (Food at Home)Dining Out (Food Away From Home)Total Food Budget Share
1965 11.0%  3.5%  14.5%
1985  7.9%    4.2%  12.1%
2005  5.6%    4.2%   9.8%
2025  4.8%    4.9%   9.7%

Cheaper food must make it easier to help people in need?

Oh SNAP!

Farmers really want people to be able to consume their product. They do not care who pays for it.

Seems like "percentage" is a mystery word.

That's why there's so many experts now. People used to read books and get experience doing stuff.

None of that matters anymore. Just need the google or the utube.

Welp, your "affordability" claims just got OBLITERATED, cupcake!!

Spending LESS TODAY of total income for FOOD than ever before, so it's MORE AFFORDABLE, not less.

Damn, you really are one ******* ****!! Of the biggest kind too!!

Now, CHASE ME SOME MORE!!  Image   Image   Image

Are these your words?
Beekeeper

Groceries are MORE EXPENSIVE because your boy BIDEN has a 4.5% INFLATION RATE, $3.50 a gal gas, $3.65 a gal Diesel fuel, and GOVERNMENT SPENDING out his *** that is causing all of it.

The FACTS ARE, crop production is at al ALL TIME HIGH and there is NO SHORTAGES OF ANYTHING except due to SUPPLY CHAIN ISSUES, not lack of crops and livestock!!

Sucks you are THAT **** STUPID, huh??

You're telling us that things are more expensive now then they were under Biden? You're lying.

I was by myself, so Mrs couldn't say no to the Mexican Restaurant..

I had not been there since the early 2000's..

Enjoyed the Chimichanga lunch  for $13.95 that was $7.95 back in the day.

These people are nuts if they don't see price increases recently.. And most of them are too young to know what we have seen.

Property Tax went up 300$ This year.  200$ a month just in rent to own a home.

OMG man..

And if we go grid free in a trailer on a lot in the woods we'll get a big "Nope, it ain't happening"

The 2026 Chimichanga was excellent and identical to the 2006 model.

The only thing that changed was the value of the currency to protect the corrupted..

My awareness of economics was really slim throught out my career..  I am learning on the crash course now.  Something is gonna give and they know it.

Totally correct what I said!! The LAWS OF SUPPLY AND DEMAND are immutable!!

But there has been an INCREASE IN INCOMES vs ByeDUMB's inflation period where wages didn't keep up or get ahead!! aka HIGH INFLATION due to PRINTING MONEY!!

There is a difference in increased PRICES vs AFFORDABILITY!! Prices can increase and still be MORE AFFORDABLE compared to wages, *******!!

Now, CHASE ME!!

So??

It still doesn't make it LESS AFFORDABLE if WAGES increase at a higher rate, which they have!!

And WAGES are at an ALL TIME HIGH, ****!!  Image   Image   Image
