A non-retarded conservative (A rarity today) posted this, and I agree 100%:
Sorry, but here are some uncomfortable facts you gotta digest, think about this the next time you schedule a doctor's visit.
The real enemy here isn't so much socialized medicine per se as it is corporate-run healthcare. Consider what the medical establishment used to look like 40 years ago:
Lots of doctors with independent practices or partnered as small independent clinics.
Lots of independent local and regional hospitals.
Emphasis on general and family practice, preventive medicine, curative treatments.
What we have today:
"Old time" GP's knew a little bit of everything. Today's doctors (under 50-yrs old) don't know squat because they haven't been taught squat. All they do is stare at a computer screen and tell you your BMI is too high -- without actually checking your blood sugar or A1c, without noticing those skin tags on your neck or the bulging varicose veins in your legs. When was the last time your doctor actually felt your liver and spleen, or checked the strength of the pulse in your feet?
Rapid consolidation of local & regional healthcare facilities into large corporate infrastructures. Better funded healthcare groups started competing with (or bought out) independent clinics and hospitals. Healthcare groups are rapidly being bought out by massive corporate healthcare "systems".
It's virtually financially impossible for a GP to run his or her own office, especially if they have to accommodate Medicare / Medicaid patients, record-keeping and front office costs are staggering.
Virtually all GP's and many specialists are now employed by a healthcare system. As such, limitations are placed on the nature and extent of treatments they may, or may not, be allowed to prescribe to their patients. We already see how GP's are being forced to spend only x-minutes with each patient per visit, regardless of the patient's illness or medical needs.
A "system" GP cannot recommend a specialist outside that corporate system. In the old days, local GP's all knew each other and could vouch for some of the locally-practicing specialists; if you needed to see a dermatologist, your doc would give you some names within easy driving distance. Now he sets up an appointment with a "system dermatology center" 50 miles away, you don't know who you'll be seeing until you get there.
Medical management has superseded cure and treatment. We went from fixing people's problems to managing their conditions -- usually through a plethora of drugs. We need to understand this new form of corporate healthcare has an incestuous relationship with Big-Pharma, Big-Insurance, and Big-Government -- the most unholy Trinity imaginable. Your diseases, your injuries, your pain doesn't matter -- you're just a cash register. Patients are a commodity to be mined, refined and consumed, you're nothing more than Soylent Green
.I'm sorry, there's no "health care" in America anymore.
YOU
ARE
ON
YOUR
****
OWN
Gotta get your head around that. But there's hope:
BE YOUR OWN DOCTOR!
Be proactive, take responsibility for your own health. Never undergo a medical procedure or take a drug you haven't researched, don't rely solely on your doctor. Use places like Walk-in Labs and Labcorp to do basic blood panel tests for a fraction of the cost of a hospital. You don't need a lab order from your doctor, they'll print one for you. I do this once a year. If something's out of range, I look it up, find potential cause of the condition, consider possible remedies and try to fix it on my own.
If you absolutely have to see a doctor, bring your latest blood panels and research.
