With that said if you claim it is a weapon for the battlefield you should be able to tell us why the US Government did not Purchase a Semi Automatic weapon as it's primary assault weapon for the troops.  Why haven't they?

The AR 15 is the semi automatic variant of the M16...

For what function was the M16 "designed"?

The M16 s a lightweight, 5.56 mm, air-cooled, gas-operated, magazine-fed assault rifle, with a rotating bolt capable of semi auto and full auto.  It is capable of a cyclic rate of fire of700-950 rounds.  It has a maximum range of 3.600 meters, a maximum effective range of a point target of 550 meters and and a maximum effective range for an area target of 800 meters.  It was designed to be the primary combat weapon for the US Military

Already discussed.

The AR 15 automatic sport weapon does not have those capabilities and functions.

Could you explain why the AR 15 Semi automatic rifle is not issued to US combat troops as the standard issue assault rifle?

Hint, the answer is in the question.

Inaccurate? The ar15 is not an assault rifle. That is a simple fact.

By definition an assault rifle must have a full auto selector. You clearly know nothing about guns. Why are You arguing about them?

Did you take a lot of exctasy back in the day?

You can't progress in a linear fashion or retain context..

You did not break the news that one of the tactical aims of combat is to wound, rather than kill, as this places a greater burden on the enemy..

That you are an ammosexual eager to share your "Musings on Morning Wood" is not particularly relevant; I suggest you engage in that pillow talk **** with dwarf on a dedicated thread.

There you go again with your 'Based on' story.

It is based on the m16. But it is totally not the m16.

Like I said before...it is altered specifically to be less deadly. So it doesn't matter what it is 'Based on'.

LMAO!  You learned this from what military experience?  That only has merit when you have an enemy that cares about the wounded.  Why do you think so many Japanese had to die during the island hopping campaigns?  They fought to the death.

Because the AR 15 Semi automatic IS NOT a combat weapon, not an assault rifle, and was never designed to one.  As this thread shows.

Could you explain why the AR 15 Semi automatic rifle is not issued to US combat troops as the standard issue assault rifle?

Hint, the answer is in the question.

System? It is a gun...not a system.

It is a rifle made by armalite and based on the m16 which they also made. It is designed for legal civilian use. Ergo it is not as dangerous a weapon as the m16 and it is much cheaper.

I heard first hand accounts of it growing up...not very often, but occasionally..

In what year was the weapons system, of which the AR 15 is the semi automatic variant, developed?

In what year did the War in the Pacific end?

Which number is larger?

It is a variant of an existing design.
