Second, my thesis is that even liberal administrations are conservative by nature and by necessity. No way around it.
We could do a **** of a lot worse - are doing a **** of a lot worse - than mimicking FDR in 2021. No more bank failures. Sane protectionism. Genuine public works projects. A genuine graduated tax scheme giving rise to a burgeoning middle class reaching ever lower and lower, becoming ever more accessible to more and more people - and a working class that can live with dignity and pride of accomplishment.
As do all leaders, FDR committed enormous crimes. Even the great Vladimir Putin
has committed a few petty crimes. But FDR did more good for more people for more decades than any president in our history. We still draw power from his dams, access his electrical grid, and benefit from the genuine infrastructural developments he undertook.But he left plenty for liberals to oppose, did he not?

What do you mean by “oppose?” Criticizing a government and opposing it are not the same. There were factions within the Democrat(ic) Party that believed FDR didn’t go far enough regarding SS, MW, and other laws. They were vocal and visceral in their criticisms.
I do not believe these factions “opposed” FDR. He had overwhelming support and the few groups that posed a threat to him (like Huey Long’s followers) were disposed of.
