The landlines are amazing...how they will stretch but not break.
The big fat cables might have 100 pairs of wires in them..basically a pair of wires for every house on that run.
They are protected by the powerlines when a tree falls...... the powerlines take the brunt of the force and snap.
In the 30 years time I have lived in the woods...my landline phone lost it's connection just once.

The laments of an old man, those damn kids and their Smart-phones.  A Dumb phone was good enough in my day!

And they are actually quite useful.  I waited, a long time, until I found an app to do my billing.  Raised my income by 20%.  Well worth it and now I wouldn't live without it so, don't use it on walks to take calls, or stare at all day, but there are two things you'd like where you are.

1. You can use Life360, which tells you where the wife and kids are.

2. You can use What-Three-Words, which with just three words will tell you where you are within three meters anywhere on the planet.  Go out for a nice walk, fall or get hurt and need help, just open the app and tell those coming to help you almost exactly where you are.

The wife has a flat tire and needs help, What-Three-Words.  Even easier than GPS.

Hey...my phone plan is $20 per month and THAT IS TOO MUCH.
I would rather just spend 50 cents per month at a local phone booth.....

So e of us have important things and contacts to make during the day and the smart phone makes my life easier. With the thousands of people I talk to through out the month it makes it way more convenient.

I use it for a memo . shopping lists , gps , games , a phone obviously, a calculator when shopping to compere prices . A search engine when n I'm out shopping , especially when one store hasn't got what I'm looking for ,  a dress book ,I also use the blue tooth for music in my car and home stereo.

I just don't think the cost is worth the convenience.
I  can manage just fine without the Smart Phone
I also don't think employees should be expected to provide their own Smart Phones to perform any company related duties.
The Employer should provide the phone and pay the bill.
