Religion is the one and only factor? Good enough for me.
You people keep spouting that religion **** all day.
That was never a point with me. That fake **** is all you see out there.
I know this is a tough concept for you deep thinkers.
A belief doesn't have to be religious.
(Unless, of course, you want to win a chat room spat.)
I don't believe in whatever God some church says I should.
I left that dreamland long ago as a **** child.
But allowing that some true believers find solace and purpose is not a tough concept for me.
You guys can all piss on my shoes about that and win that popularity contest, too.
But when you morph what I said to do it... Buh bye.
Never said it helped anyone.impartialobserver » 01 Jun 2022, 10:53 am » wrote: ↑ If someone wants to be spiritual/religious and it helps them... fine. However, I adamantly disagree with the belief that being religious/spiritual makes someone more moral or a better person. BTW... I am descended from a French Catholic priest who was a pedophile who admitted to getting off on pain and suffering. Believing in God did not help him or his victims.
Ok, so it can help someone. Cool. So can a lot of things. However, the point of the OP is that lack of religion leads to being immoral and therefore increased violence. I think that is a very short sighted view of the world.DeezerShoove » 01 Jun 2022, 10:58 am » wrote: ↑ Never said it helped anyone.
I said IF SOME find... blah blah blah... what's wrong with it?
It's akin to meditation or baking cookies for your sick kid or whatever hobby.
If it puts you in a better place mentally...
Jesus Christ, you people are willfully playing dense or something.
Why didn't you just say that?impartialobserver » 01 Jun 2022, 11:00 am » wrote: ↑ Ok, so it can help someone. Cool. So can a lot of things. A lot of things can help a person.. religion is just one of many. It is no better or valuable than the others. I will not divulge the details but had a not so great summer with an older brother. My solace was not found in religion but rather rock music and later on going to work.DeezerShoove » 01 Jun 2022, 11:11 am » wrote: ↑ Why didn't you just say that?
So, you agree that the point is partially valid. No crime in that.
I have other people here that jumped in my **** and thought I was quoting the **** bible by the tone of the posts.
Holy ****! I am not atheist enough to be here I guess.![]()

Infant mortality, women dying in child birth, people dying of easily treated infections, no treatment for most diseases we consider controllable now.
Life expectancy in the 60 year range.
I'd say there are more people today than ever before who have never killed and butchered a chicken, or a deer, or even just a fish.
More people than ever before who have never been in a fist fight or even spent an entire day working or playing outdoors.
The main exposure to "death" this generation has had is from playing Black Ops Commando Nintendo and watching Taratino movies.

Public executions used to draw large crowds too. Still, the question of meaning and purpose also comes into play when you analyze what we hold dear in this current epoch of American society.
When Democrats/Communists are completely subdued, ridiculed, mocked, and bullied without remorse for their crimes against this nation, then I will have faith in my fellow countrymen once again.Monderegal » 31 May 2022, 11:13 am » wrote: ↑ I found this article in the Atlantic interesting for several reasons. First, it is about American culture itself. We bombard ourselves with violence and anger that has gone to the level of being desensitized to the reality of death. Now, more and more people are taking up arms and acting out their fatal fantasies. This is not simply a gun issue. It is a cultural issue where we never even second guess the media we consume for entertainment as a loathsome effect on our psyches. This used to be a question of political importance but it seems voices that condemned such notions have now gone deaf. With this culture at work, the anger and dark tendencies of human nature will probably rear their ugly head again and again to a point that such violence could become even more common.
The second note here is that it seems many people have given up hope in a better future. The decline of spiritual practices and the alienation of citizens and their government are both signs of this. Even masks are seen as an intrusive government on a public that has given up on civic engagement. The debate on Covid safety measures, of course, is one of democracy but the reasoning sometimes points to a complete rejection of the government in general. Nihilism or the complete rejection of meaning in life was the result of the secularization of American society in my opinion. This was mostly not the case at first when most rejection of organized religion still instilled spirituality in some sort of form. Now as time passes the world has become more bleak for many and the rejection of any sort of meaning in life is much more common. This is a proper analysis of the state of American society at this point in my opinion where we find ourselves looking in the mirror again with the latest mass killing. Link to Atlantic article here.

I guess the point I was trying to make is that violence has probably gone from reality to fantasy. We have better health outcomes too. Still, I do feel there is something missing despite all these advances. That is probably the reason that people don't believe in anything anymore. End of the Enlightenment?
