The more compact...the less forgiving it's gonna be to weak wrists. This is gonna divide into whether you want stopping power or not...cause it's gonna be one or the other.

A .22 is actually quite decent for like 99% of situations. I would recommend the glock 44. Glock basically made that gun for people like you.

Now it is not gonna stop a 500 lb gorilla on pcp. Be aware of that. But since your age etc is clearly a factor it is probably the best you can do.

Look at a Glock 42.
.380 Cal.

Won't stop a moose but it also has to be manageable for the shooter.

Lol! That's mostly what I've been looking at.  What about the G43 for a lil lady?

G42 has a lighter spring, easier slide release.
.380 is much nicer on old bones to practice with.

That is an important aspect... practice and know what you're holding.
It is not at all a good idea to learn while in danger or little time to think about it.

(I'm comparing this to 9mm btw.  .22LR is even more light weight.)

Already did that comparison for a small older woman.
G43 hurt, hard to rack...   G42 way better for her.
^ 9mm                               ^ .380 cal.

Thanks! It needs to be easy to rack, that a must. I'll search into the G42

I mean...test shoot it. It's gonna have a lot of recoil for you imo. Yr worried about your wrists. I mean...how worried? Maybe don't even test shoot it. Cause the g43 has a lot of kick

Yup.
Range USA has many rentals. Easy side by side testing.
Lots of gun stores can do that. If they have a range...
They frown on in-store testing.

G44 is gonna be nicer than the g42. Less stopping power. Less recoil.

Imo if you can't unload an entire magazine in like 5 seconds then the caliber is too big for you. Real life is about rate of fire 80%...not accuracy.

Keep both eyes open, focus on the front sight, ignore the double vision behind it, and unload the whole magazine quickly. That's the general battle plan.

At your age you probably can't do that with a 9mm compact. Which is nothing to be embarrassed about. Maybe can't even do it with 380. It's fine. Just go to your level. Nobody is judging grandma.

Then I've probably helped you make at least a few cents.
Made in Austria, Germany, Belgium...my favorite weapons. Add some older American made steel as well.  :)

That's why range time helps a lot.
You work out proper grip and trigger pull there.
Not in the bar parking lot.

Some muscle memory. And just pulling it out of hiding quick and sure.

Spray and pray doesn't make much sense. That's total panic mode. What's PAST the target?
Especially if you advocate a .22LR.

With that you have to aim at the 3 ping pong balls for a stopper. (Eyes and throat.)
I heard you just aim at the chin and your spray has a chance to get one.

Easy to say all of this stuff here.
Real world is moving, noisy, dark, scary, uncertain, etc.
... and you don't want to do this in the first place...

But anyway despite its strengths this gun...the Smith & Wesson bodyguard...is probably the worst **** gun to give to laypeople. Lol
