As I see it, unionism had its place in the past. Today... not quite. Have worked in two unionized settings and both times, it was was no utopia. yes, we got paid more but there were drawbacks that more than cancelled out the extra $2.00 per hour that we were earning.

I disagree. The work was largely monotonous and no great skill was needed. The jobs that took any type of intellect were filled by white folks. The core issue was that they were unwilling to update the equipment and so relied heavily on manual labor. the teamsters are actually doing okay...but truck drivers are becoming far more diverse.
and although the stereotype is that truck drivers are retarded...it does take some sense and discipline to drive a truck in an acceptably safe manner.
teacher unions are of course very diverse, but are led by leftist ideologues who would literally be opposed to the idea of protecting teachers from being stabbed by feral blacks.
for whatever reason, police unions have had a terrible record of protecting police from racism and rape charges.

Texas is a right to work state, so there aren't any hiring halls there.
