If you had to face 2 or more bad guys, Would you prefer to have a hand gun or an AR-15?

I've heard the argument that both guns are equally lethal but I'm skeptical.

At close quarters a hand gun would be easier. At many feet and farther the scary black AR-15 would be fine.   :)

Ok, Fair enough.  Why would the AR-15 be more effective if they're farther away?

A rifle is more accurate at a distance.  With a pistol the swing angle is much more pronounced the farther away the target is.

Long barrel vs short barrel.

When I was a kid you could get a hunting license at 12 y/o IF you take the hunter's safety course.

Two key things about guns:

#1   Treat every gun as if it is loaded, even if it's not loaded.  It's a good habit to get into.

#2   Always point a gun down and away from people or animals when not using it.

I think I recall answering a question like this.  In close quarters (home, for instance), I'd rather have a full-capacity semi-auto pistol.  If you are talking about defending open land, then the AR would suffice.  Personally, I'd opt for a good 308 bullpup over an AR, but that's just me.  It's just easier for me to grab my pistol and check out the house, room by room, if something goes bump in the night. It would take more time for me to get an AR into my hands and operational.

That is correct.  The only time my 9mm has a round in the chamber is when I go to the range or I am carrying.  When I get home I drop the magazine, make sure it is clear, put it on safe and then put the 13 round magazine in don't rack the slide. Then I put it down on the dresser or lock it in the safe.  Later, if I pick it up I make sure it is on safe, drop the mag and rack the slide to make sure it is empty.

If you do it every time you never forget.

   The AR 15 of course.
 More power.
 More shots.
 More accurate.
Just as short as a handgun when a handgun is held at arms length.
Great for in a building or outdoors.

No, not really although I do rotate them and look at them when I do.

If you had to face 2 Armed Attackers would you prefer the FETAL POSITION over the KNEELING PRAYER POSITION...?

Each person has to do what they are comfortable with.  For me, I always keep a round in the chamber of the one gun I am using/carrying at that time.  I set my wife up with a gun and made sure it has a round in the chamber.  Both guns are DAO, so it's not much different than having a revolver.

The only thing it is not good for is appearances if/when you have to go to court. But, if you live in a Castle Doctrine state, you should be just fine.

depends on the tactical situation, most especially the range involved.

ADDED LATER: I see that very question is already covered in the thread. Yes, handgun out to May ten yards, AR15 farther out.

That should take care of just about any threat. I'd add a couple of lehigh solid copper perpetrators just in case someone is wearing body armor.

Not a bad Idea.  BUT, I would be afraid of them going thru the wall into the neighbors house.  Hopefully the Hornaday triple defense works before I would have to shoot that:

410 Triple Defense®Item #86238 | 20/Box
US Patent: 8,161,885 | 8,413,587Delivering effective shot patterns that place all projectiles on a man-sized target at seven yards, the Critical Defense® 410 features a unique Triple Defense® projectile column consisting of two 35 caliber round balls topped with one non-jacketed FTX® slug.

Unique to the Critical Defense® 410, the 41 caliber FTX® slug actually engages the gun's rifling, and contacts the target nose-on, enabling the patented Hornady® Flex Tip® technology to assist in expansion for greatly enhanced terminal performance. Each 35 caliber round ball is made of high antimony, cold swaged lead to resist deformation and provide excellent penetration.Critical Defense® 410 Triple Defense® - you be the JUDGE!
