I agree with the "held to a higher standard" theory. Cops very often make above middle class wages - often on a high school education. We train them in de-escalation. They're paid good money to be better than average. They agree to be held to a higher standard.

A long time ago I was held overnight in a city jail. It had gotten drunk out that night...
I remember waking up next morning to a cop coming in to work.
He said to somebody (mostly for me to hear), "Looks like we got a bad guy!"
I always will remember the smug arrogance for a guy who hasn't even really been pushed at all yet.
How was this asshole at the end of the day?
I don't believe this young cop so many years ago even understood the "higher standard" theory.
