Metal stretch bands???  Decent watches that need to be water proof now incorporate high quality rubber straps. Or, you can find some water proof leather straps, but they don't last as long.

I have bought several watches that have been really great in every way EXCEPT for the bands.
The "rubber"  (actually some synthetic silicone) has outlasted the watch in four examples now.
The watches are still ticking away, but the bands broke and no replacement is available.

The metal bands tend to get all crudded up and are less comfortable.

"Leather" bands are treated heavily with synthetic stuff, and do not fit as well.

My present solution is a Timex Expedition digital watch with a fabric and Velcro strap. The good thing about Timex is that they are guaranteed. Even past the expiration date, Timex will sell you a new replacement for a wholesale price.
