Jailing Americans for bringing small amounts of Drugs into Russia did not begin with Griner--- though with her having some measure of celebrity status as a WNBA player, her case has been the most profiled...Vegas » 05 Aug 2022, 11:06 pm » wrote: ↑ She didn't receive an ounce of justice. That is why she got 9 yrs, not for carrying some stupid cannabis oil.
I don't proclaim to know a strategy to get her back. Putin is a **** psychopath. You can't reason with people like him. Some of us may not like her politics, but she is still one of us. She is still an American citizen, that makes her one of our own. This would have been great opportunity for unification across the country, but I see too many of my fellow righties not giving a ****. I find that disappointing, and even unpatriotic. Sure, kneeling for the anthem is also unpatriotic, but she never, to my knowledge, wished harm on her fellow Americans. She may be a pain in the ***, but she is our pain in the ***. As long as one of our own is being **** over by a psychopathic leader, all Americans should put aside their hatred and go get her. Then once we have her back, we can go back to hating each other again.

They are treating her no different than any other person (to this point).
The sentencing of WNBA star Brittney Griner to nine years behind bars and a fine of 1 million rubles – between US$10,000 and $20,000 depending on the exchange rate – should come as no surprise to those familiar with Russian law
The country has long enforced strict drug laws and has a well-deserved reputation for zero-tolerance jurisdiction
Indeed, the crime Griner was prosecuted of – smuggling narcotics in “significant amount” in violation of Article 229¹(2)(c) of the Russian criminal code – carries a minimum sentence of five to 10 years “deprivation of freedom” along with the fine, and the upper end of the spectrum seems to be common. The prosecutor in Griner’s case asked for 9 ½ years and, presumably, the maximum fine. He got most of what he wanted.
To many in the U.S., nine years’ imprisonment may seem like a harsh penalty for cannabis possession. But in Russia, it is par for the course for this crime.

What TRAGIC did was so stupid based on risk vs reward.
Consider this....once you safely get through Customs cleanly and get settled into your new digs...then there will be people who are already part of the "Pro Sports Culture" who could have safely "hooked up" TRAGIC JOHNSONto some European hash that TRAGIC would most likely never see Stateside.
That's the nick name I gave Griner

Her sentencing was perfectly normal. It wasn't worse than what happens to drug offenders who aren't from the usa.Vegas » 05 Aug 2022, 11:06 pm » wrote: ↑ She didn't receive an ounce of justice. In June 2022 a former US Embassy employee (and US Citizen) named Marc Fogel , who was employed as an English teacher was sentenced to 14 years in prison... He was caught bringing in a 1/2 Ounce of Marijuana, which he alleged was prescribed by a doctor stateside for pain management from back surgery.. This was in the same Russian Jurisdiction where Griner was sentenced... Neither Griner nor Fogel met Russia's own legal definition of substantial quantities of Drugs, yet both seemed to be charged with such.
Fogel's distressed family members in the States have been desperately trying to draw the same attention and political assistance that is being afforded to Griner--- to pretty much no avail... I can only imagine how they must feel... Any deals or offers put on the table regarding repatriation of Griner, should include the freeing Marc Fogel as well.. In fact, I feel far more sympathy for him, than the bitch with a face like a clenched fist.
