When you complain, your friends roll their eyes and your enemies smile

"Because I SAY I am" is fallacy, not science

You cannot betray me - only yourself, to me.

Who cuts off your dick is not your friend

An opinion you won't defend is not yours. It's someone else's

Humanity's Law of the Jungle: Survival NOT of the fittest, but of the tribe

When peeing in the pool, stand on the edge

If gender is not sex, why should a gender claim change what sex you shower with?

This brilliant satire only gets a 7 - but it deserves much higher.

For those who haven't seen it... it deserves a much higher rating, it was meant to be a comedy but it became reality...

Santa Sangre is another "get sucked in for some reason" movie.

For completely different reasons...

Back in the 80 and 90s, when we all had subscriptions at the local video store and you could take out five at a time on VCR for your monthly fee, I figured out what we now call a "hack." It was not cheap to put a movie in my hand - not like now. You hadda put it on tape, in a box, and then ship the box to my town. That's an investment.

Add the complexity of doing it with  foreign film, and the narrowness of the market for such (Most yanks are too lazy for subtitles), and you've got  PILE of disincentives. Nothing on the foreign film rack would be dreck. Only the best would be there. That was all the incentive I needed. If it was on the foreign rack in my video store, it wound up in my VCR. I considered it a duty, an honor and a privilege to patronize the art of my day; and film figgered big on the list. So I dove head first into the foreign film rack, wherever I was.

I developed a director's eye - it gave me a much deeper appreciation of the art. The discipline of watching only the best was likely why I IMMEDIATELY smelled a rat when I watched Inconvenient Truth. I knew what I was seeing, what had gone into making it. I knew WHY the camera was doing what it was doing. I was not being swept along by the current; rather, I was observing the current, and noticing what had gone into creating it. Had I possessed the sensibilities of the average film consumer, who knows? Algore might have taken me in.

Our grandparents fell for Reefer Madness. WE see that film as HOKEY. But our grands & great grands were less sophisticated. And perhaps as far ahead in the game as we are compared to them, I am that far ahead of my contemporaries, for having made a recreational study of the art form.

Anyhow, thanks for the picks! Image

Interesting commentary. I think I fell into that category at least on some level.
Also, partly because Hollywood "formulae" got predictable and seeing the options on storyline dwindle toward the end of the movies was boring.

The sarcasm of Family Guy Stars Wars showed that: Peter "Han Solo" says, "There's five of the main characters on the ship. There is no way we get shot down". Kind of breaks any sense of action/tension when you can see that obvious **** despite the sound track exciting music.

Another hokeyism in decades old movies is the camera angles. The pivotal lines being delivered by a main character turning away from the person being spoken to so they can face the camera. The weeping woman turning toward the camera, back to the other person, etc.
I know you know what I mean. When it's done badly it destroys the intent.

I also notice the nearly nose-to-nose conversations. Mostly old TV shows because small screens and low resolution. It's sort of quaint to see people speaking so closely, nearly shouting their lines...

i totally 100% recommend this movie for anyone who likes a movie to think about. Great acting, great story, and an indie movie.

Coherence

It's on prime. And I would love to talk about it with anybody who's watched it. This movie needs multiple watchings. Just fyi...
