This video explores four reasons why military is understaffed

I think the reason is simply there is no plausible threat to the US. If there was, people would want to join, to defend something. That has meaning. Joining now has no meaning.
Since the end of WWII, there has been no real threat against the US, but pretense that there is some threat has never been more strained and laughable than it is now. It’s never been more obvious that soldiers are simply mercs for the deep state, working to arm terrorists around the world and kill innocent humans on a vast scale.
In 2018, a U.S. child in school was more likely to be shot than a U.S. soldier.

with no enemy, no danger to protect against, no real missions and nothing noble or righteous in military service, the soldiers grow bored. The high ranking officers begin playing silly games like making the army “woke”. This flies in the face of everything the military has stood for in the past.
military training has historically been centered on crushing individualism to hone a fine tuned combat machine out of individuals who work together by learned instinct. With its newfound focus on wokeness, and the individualism and respect for difference that implies, the military capability for units to act swiftly in unison is beyond stifled, it is destroyed.
It doesn’t matter. These days, humans don’t fight wars, armed drones do. Guided missile strikes and nuclear weapons have changed the game, there is no need for warriors in war anymore.
