Yes, a lot of it was boring, but I actually like building custom spreadsheets with Lotus 123 for quantity surveys & using onscreen plan estimating systems.  And visiting a multitude of job sites, especially high-rises in Texas & California for change orders was a lot more than just interesting.

As for pay, I earned union foreman carpenter wages, had a company truck or car with paid gas & maintenance and insurance & a cell phone.  I had paid Kaiser health insurance for my family with $5.00 doctor visit co-pays.  And I got good bonuses at the end of every year, as well as turkeys for Thanksgiving & Christmas .

I could have made a lot more money if I had started my own business, but at least I didn't have those headaches of hiring & firing workers.

It allowed me to have a family of 2 beautiful children & buy a house, with a mortgage, that I doubled in size, added a Dutch gable roof with an attic with windows on each end & big enough to add 2 bedrooms & a bath. I lengthened the middle bedroom by 4' & added a big walk-in toy closet. I walled off the original closet on the other end & opened up the closet in the original master bedroom to 6' with sliding mirrored doors.  I installed beautiful gray granite counters & a bar that opened into a great room with carpet in it & the 3 bedrooms & nice farmhouse oak laminate flooring in all the walkway areas.  I also ran speaker wires myself in the walls before they nailed on the drywall for surround sound in the great room & stereo in the new master bath & even a wire to the original bath for a speaker, & audio/video wires to the new master bedroom with  a built-in desk & master bath with a skylight that opens with  a pole.

I sold the house for $1.2 million, & paid cash for another beautiful home farther out with a beautiful pool & Jacuzzi.

LOL. What else is a person supposed to do? Go be a Monk. But that doesn't pay very well.   Everyone gets trapped into working. I Suppose it's important to like what you do. And it sounds to me like a lot of you guys -sort of liked what you did.

i do not consider my individual fate to be of great importance. My main concern is the world at large and our collapse as a civilization.

Lots of individuals together can. One person alone?  look.. Trump had this country pretty much smooth and on track. LOOK how fast others destroyed it. Didn't take long.
