The thing about Venice is the smell of decay...JinnMartini » 06 Sep 2022, 6:23 pm » wrote: ↑ After all the hassle in Japan (which was a real pain in the ***) . . . we decided to take some time off for a few weeks holidays in Italy.

Business class, of course !
These days they have these strange seats in business class . . . you can stretch out . . . but somehow they look strange !
And I can't be next to my wife.
There's always an aisle between us !
Strange !
We have a list of top-quality restaurants.
Mostly fish-only.
We'll see . . .

I'll be displaying a @Cannonpointer poster, upon arrival.
And maybe a @Ronjul one upon departure.
Both friends of mine.

And of course, there are way too many Italiani. Worse yet - Veneziani!
That's great you are able to travel abroad like this, see family, take care of business etc.JinnMartini » 06 Sep 2022, 6:23 pm » wrote: ↑ After all the hassle in Japan (which was a real pain in the ***) . . . we decided to take some time off for a few weeks holidays in Italy.

Canada is also rough on background checks - had a pal denied entry for an excellent job in computers: a real opportunity for him.Hank » 06 Sep 2022, 6:48 pm » wrote: ↑ That's great you are able to travel abroad like this, see family, take care of business etc.
I will sometime in the near future cross the pond and visit whales the home of my ancestors and and the very least cross western Europe and make my way down to Rome, not see the home of the cult of child molesters but to see the ruins of the Roman empire
It's really cool you just came out of Japan to, I have a friend that some time there while he was in the navy and really admires the Japanese culture. I don't know if I can get into Japan, how serious are they about back grounda, I w heard it was pretty rough even if you have your record expunged
Even still - too many. Your swarthy mediterranean types, they make me uneasy.JinnMartini » 06 Sep 2022, 6:46 pm » wrote: ↑![]()

Actually Italians and Venetians are a minority in Venice !
Just saying !
That smell though...it's at once repugnant and yet inviting. The smell of the fish market blends with the stink of the sea. I found it transcendental.Cannonpointer » 06 Sep 2022, 6:38 pm » wrote: ↑ The thing about Venice is the smell of decay...

I've been to basically the majority of European cities. Nothing even comes close that I have seen.Rock » 06 Sep 2022, 7:37 pm » wrote: ↑ I can't say that it's the most beautiful city in Europe as I've not been to every city, but I've been there and it is a very beautiful city. Paris IS fantastic. And London does not suck ***. It's a very cool city with lots of history. The people are not pigs.Cannonpointer » 06 Sep 2022, 7:18 pm » wrote: ↑ Canada is also rough on background checks - had a pal denied entry for an excellent job in computers: a real opportunity for him.
If you're gonna do Europe, I can tell you that Paris is fantastic. London sucks *** - costs ten bucks to buy a coke. And the people are pigs. In Paris, they are warm and decent folks.
In Italy, you wanna see Florence. It's small, but man, it's nice. It's the Carmel of Italy. You should try to make a side trip to Amsterdam. That city is its own thing. But if you visit the Anne Frank house don't make ANY pro-Nazi comments. Zero sense of humor about that. If you DO make such comments, do it AFTER you've seen the place. They give ya your money back when they ask you to "Leave, and never return."

Absolutely go to Amsterdam. And yes CP we've had the convo about the Anne Frank house. Whatever you believe about the Holocaust it's still an interesting tourist site. And Amsterdam is a fun city.

Sure and most of it just looks bad and trashy. Traffic is terrible. Etc.Rock » 06 Sep 2022, 7:49 pm » wrote: ↑ I can't argue. It is a fantastic city. Rome is really cool with all of its history but it is hot and dry and pretty miserable weather wise (we were there in June).
