President Grant thought Custer was a bumbling fool, and Libby wrote three books about how great he was. Custer's ambition was to be elected president, but the Battle on the Greasy Grass sort of wrecked that plan. Libbie Custer lived to be 91 years old and her character was depicted in three films. She died in 1933.
