The poor will ALWAYS believe that the rich are unfairly compensated in the wealth they've achieved, and need to be reigned in no matter how much damage to the economy that results in. Such a belief is rooted in envy, jealousy, and hatred, most often coming from those who have no interest in actually doing the hard work involved with those taking the monetary risks that others are willing to do. And when liberal government leaders agree with them and promise a swift and harsh correction to that status quo in order to secure their votes, such a remedy ALWAYS fails to provide what has been promised. I've watched whole industries destroyed by that governmentally-imposed damage, with never a backwards glance by those in authority to consider how or why the attempt failed.
And your hypothesis here seems to contradict observable scientific reality. The rich skew towards the democratic party. The base of the gop are the poor.

What has changed since the turn of the century is that liberal government now operates at the behest of the largest corporations, who control policy with their lobbying efforts (bribes) to individuals politicians who curry favor in return for their wealth. This is corruption at the highest level, and is NOT reminiscent of ANYTHING that resembles laissez-faire. It's nothing more than the fact that liberal politicians have discovered the ability to make themselves far more wealthy doing the bidding of the multinational, multi-billion dollar corporations than they ever could fighting for the poor and middle class, which include the vast majority of small businesses who receive punitive legislation against them according to the desires of those huge corporations that enforce UNFAIR competition that provide favoritism to them to stifle the growth of their competition and keep them alone at the top of the heap.
Meritocracy is merely an afterthought for a fascist government, just as it is within liberalism.

If you don't see how similar the Obama and Biden administrations are to each other and how they are both VASTLY different than the Republican vision, than you're simply not being objective. Trump was a 180 degree about-face from where Obama led us, and Biden did a full 180 back to what Obama (who is STILL in charge) had been working towards; a socialist government more in tune with what most of Europe has become than what our Founding Fathers had envisioned.
And you're a fool if you believe that acknowledging those extreme differences is nothing more than blind partisanship.
I believe that you find them only slightly different because you still center your allegiance around your own Marxist heroes, and anything else lies in the same bucket of deplorables you use.
