The tragedy of the commons with regards to ocean pollution is stumping me.
it would seem there should be another solution besides total globalist government.

Try to understand the concept of "Commons".

If it is "owned" in Common, who is responsible for imposing costs on those who abuse it?

How do you enforce it?

Agree with number one, and profit motive does have controls in the form both of competition and regulation. Number two also a mixed bag as competition also spurs
innovation, as does the capitalist incentive to win the market by offering a better price. Same is the case with Number three - better quality attracts buyers. I agree bailouts are a blemish and a price we pay for the greater benefit of a mainly capitalist economy. I'm a liberal, incidentally.

1.  The profit motive where it has no business being present

 

Big pharma wouldn't be so big if they did not produce drugs which people need so much to live.  Diabetes, HIV, Cancer treatments, cortical steroids, heart/blood pressure medication - Big pharma develops these drugs so that people can live a little longer or a better quality life.  Eliminate profit, and you eliminate many of these drugs and the method of  bringing newer better drugs to market. 

Pharmaceutical companies actually pour billions into R&D to make drugs that actually do work. Not because "they love us", but because they stand to make big profits.

Nobody loves you, except maybe your family and maybe a couple of friends if you are a decent guy.  Other than that, you're just someone taking up space on this planet. Profit incentivizes  people to get together and WORK, i.e. expend their limited time on creating something that others need or want.

Now, I am not for pure capitalism.  Capitalism needs to be regulated and guided to hopefully do more good than harm. On the regulation spectrum, I favor less; moderates, democrats and socialists favor more.  Why do I favor less?  Because I have more fear and concern about corrupt government than I do about corrupt corporations. Corporations have some degree of natural oversight with regulation, shareholders and the ability of shareholders to obtain information about the company.  We, the people, have no oversight on our government right now.  It runs amuck, unchecked and not beholden to the electorate.

"Commons" are shared by individuals. "owned" by individuals is rented to those sharing "common" ideas in vernacular tribalisms as social identities serving higher intellectual planes than simply mutually evolving forward when occupying space now.

Most people don't know how to deal with people in the "3rd world", the "undeveloped countries", the "developing nations" or the "**** nations", whatever you want to call them.  The natural order of humanity would be to starve them and then kill off the ones that didn't starve to death.  I may have to love my neighbor, but I don't have to love feral humans running around half naked **** up the world.

i dont even love my neighbor anymore. people **** suck. national socialism is about as much empathy as i am capable of these days...if people continue to suck im gonna return to monarchist politics lol.

My neighbors are pretty cool, and I've been fortunate to generally have neighbors that I like.  

Worst neighbor I had was about 10 houses down (most people lived on 1-5 acres).  Some rich doctor bought his **** adult kid (think Hunter Biden) the house.  He was an extreme Trump supporter (I like Trump, but...) who had all of these foster kids.  Little 5-year old mixed race kids wearing nothing but underoos riding gas powered atvs unsupervised all day in their front yard and street.  It made me steam for awhile, but then I realized I could just sell my house and move somewhere far away.  Which I did.

...we already live under many tenets of 'national socialism' [a variant of authoritarianism] dummy...of course, you'll argue    until you're blue in the face with other authoritardian monetary  ignoramuses who have a different, subjective definition of 'national sociali$m'... sounds like a lot of fun!...
