The U.N. health agency said in a statement Monday that mpox was its new preferred name for monkeypox, saying that both monkeypox and mpox would be used for the next year while the old name is phased out.
WHO said it was concerned by the “racist and stigmatizing language” that arose after monkeypox spread to more than 100 countries. It said numerous individuals and countries asked the organization “to propose a way forward to change the name.”

I would NEVER allow idiotic leftists to hijack our language and tell us what can and can't be said because it might "offend" some ignorant liberal. The truth is that now I'll go out of my way to refer to it PRECISELY in the manner they object to! The virus known as Monkeypox was named because it was first discovered in 1958 IN A COLONY OF MONKEYS! Accuracy should NEVER be substituted in order to appease the most ignorant in our society.TB7 » 28 Nov 2022, 9:34 am » wrote: ↑ Monkeypox renamed mpox after WHO cites racism concernsLONDON (AP) — The World Health Organization has renamed monkeypox as mpox, citing concerns that the original name of the decades-old animal disease could be construed as discriminatory and racist.

And if anyone is so shallow as to take offense by it, my advice to them would be to take a heavy dose of "GET OVER IT" followed by a daily supplement of "NOBODY GIVES A **** IF YOU'RE OFFENDED", and they might very well recover quickly. And if they don't, who cares?
It reminds me of the incredible ignorance of liberals who viciously attacked a sitting Senator for daring to use the word "niggardly", "because it SOUNDED racist!
Others in our absurdly "politically correct" environment have been forced to resign or have been reprimanded for ever using it, and that kind of dumbing down of our language to appease the stupid should NEVER be dictated by the dumbest in our society to those of us with a brain!
Thanks, TB. It's an example of just one of the many PC liberal irritant outrages I find the need to rail against every time I see it!
Given it's a disease found primarily in the FAW community, I prefer to call it Rainbow Bubbles.TB7 » 28 Nov 2022, 9:34 am » wrote: ↑ Monkeypox renamed mpox after WHO cites racism concernsLONDON (AP) — The World Health Organization has renamed monkeypox as mpox, citing concerns that the original name of the decades-old animal disease could be construed as discriminatory and racist.

That reminds me, whatever happened to the monkeypox... there were scary headlines every day, we were all going to die without a vaxxine.. and then it suddenly went poof... maybe it was the name, you just can't take that seriously...TB7 » 28 Nov 2022, 9:34 am » wrote: ↑ Monkeypox renamed mpox after WHO cites racism concernsLONDON (AP) — The World Health Organization has renamed monkeypox as mpox, citing concerns that the original name of the decades-old animal disease could be construed as discriminatory and racist.

Oh, the M stands for "Macaque" or "Macaca"
So the racists at the WHO apparently believe that black people should feel close enough to being like monkeys that they should be offended by the name.TB7 » 28 Nov 2022, 9:34 am » wrote: ↑ Monkeypox renamed mpox after WHO cites racism concernsLONDON (AP) — The World Health Organization has renamed monkeypox as mpox, citing concerns that the original name of the decades-old animal disease could be construed as discriminatory and racist.

It was the comptroller of DC under Marion Barry, actually - and he was forced to resign. The crack head mayor, OTOH, was re-elected.Zeets2 » 28 Nov 2022, 10:36 am » wrote: ↑ It reminds me of the incredible ignorance of liberals who viciously attacked a sitting Senator for daring to use the word "niggardly", "because it SOUNDED racist!
