Libertardian: [Does his usual, predictable routine of showing a graph of how the US dollar has been devalued since 1913]

Me: Yeah...

Libertardian: So we need to go back to the GS

Me: That's a terrible idea, lol

Libertardian: Why? With a GS the central bank can't just "print money" at will

Me: No, that is false. In many cases throughout history, kings/emperors would order the "money" (in the form of gold/silver/cheap metal) to be devalued...the coins would be clipped/melted down and the debased coinage recirculated at "par value"

Libertardian: That's why we need a pure gold standard. No other metals.

Me: First of all...pretty much no society has stuck with a "pure gold standard" for long...and for good reasons too...reasons which I don't think you can figure out since you are too busy on **** websites like Mises.org

Second of all, you didn't pay attention. The coins can simply be "clipped" (volume reduction) - either way the result is the same. Making gold the only "legal tender" doesn't change anything at all.

Third of all, no society that has survived to the present day has, at one point or another, NOT engaged in "money printing." How do you think your revered "Founding Fathers" won the War? By begging the Bank of England to finance their troops?

Look up "The Continental"

Libertardian: You mean societies like Zimbabwe? Or Weimar Germany? They must have done so well /s [sarcasm tag]

Me: Zimbabwe is just...unsalvageable because the population is too stupid to be productive/capable of economic development. Whether their leadership ruins the currency or not is irrelevant LMAO

As for Weimar Germany, the circumstances that led to hyperinflation are complicated and isn't "lol they were printing money."

If you had a greater-than-surface level understanding, you would know a certain "group of people" were responsible for destroying the currency...which enabled "those same people" to buy up any remaining German assets (that weren't confiscated after the War) for pennies on the dollar (as said "group of people" would never be stupid enough to keep their assets denominated in papiermark) but according to lolibertardians, the racial/ethnic background of the "owners" is irrelevant...lol

Libertardian: I see where you're going...typical racist blather mixed in with crazy conspiracy theories

Me: I don't have a problem with racism....well, maybe I would when it's used AGAINST me. But since you are a "colorblind" lolibertarian it doesn't matter...the scope of that topic is beyond your meager understanding XD...and yes "conspiracies" exist, you're just too blind/too much of an ideologue to notice

Libertardian: [Reroutes discussion back to the topic of "debasing currency"]

So you are OK with the government STEALING from you and other citizens? Because that's essentially what they are doing, but you seem more concerned about "lolibertarians" than this blatant theft.

Me: I'm just going to write a wall of text that precludes at least your next 3 arguments to save time.

#1...it's not "the government" stealing from me. Please stop with this lolibertarian nonsense about "the government."

"The government" is just a concept...a very useful one to be sure, but hidden behind the veils of legal statues, titles, delegated authorities, 3 letter agencies with tall fancy buildings, etc. are PEOPLE.

In other words, it's not "the government" stealing from me, it's actual people doing the stealing.

It's no different than if...say, some **** *** corporation in an oligopolistic/monopolistic market (like AT&T/Verizon or your local ISP, your local utility) charges you 3x what you would pay in a "competitive market." Or if PayPal refutes your chargeback dispute despite the fact you were the one ripped off.

It's not "the corporation" stealing from you, it's the people who authorized the theft. And those people typically consist of a board of directors doing the bidding of institutional investors like BlackRock, Vanguard, State Street, etc.

Knowing "who" these people are is absolutely critical.

#2...society by its nature is hierarchical. People closer to the top of the "food chain" almost always have "more resources" and more privileges Allocated to them.

One of these privileges is...yep, you guessed it, printing money.

If you're some peon worker bee (or, god forbid, "middle class"...which just means you're just a glorified paper pusher/office drone/corporate servant hoping to retire in your 60s instead of 80s...) you get almost no resources/almost no privileges.

So assuming you are not close to the top, you WILL be ripped off by the PEOPLE you work for (usually the corporation/business owners skims at least 30% of the total value that you provide, sometimes even more) and then you pay income, FICA, sales, property, etc. while "billionaire job creators" like Elon Musk get to claim
"carbon credits" coz they are "saving the planet" by mining and processing cobalt, aluminum, iron, etc. in Africa LOL

So when you say, "the government steals from me"...that is the destiny/fate of a peon in the middle or bottom. It WILL HAPPEN no matter what type of society you desire to live in.

Don't like this arrangement? Blame your ancestors for being weak/not being able to rise in the hierarchy or not being able to extricate themselves entirely by living off grid/creating their own little paradise/their own hierarchy.

#3: "Printing money" is not in itself evil. It depends on WHO is printing the money and what the money is used for...

Every functioning society has some form of money AS MADE LEGAL TENDER BY LAW (money = law) unless we're talking about some communist utopia where everything is "free"/the work is done by robots...in which case money could be made obsolete but I don't think that's possible since "they" will just own the robots and pacify you with drugs/processed foods/circus while you sleep 4 in a single bedroom like illegal immigrants from Cen/South America because nobody but the oligarchs will have anything to their name at that point.

Because money is one of the primary domains of government, government(s) WILL "print the money" whenever they want to. Your only hope is that the money they print will be used to benefit you (directly or indirectly) instead of SIPHONED OFF to some group inimical to your interests (or even longevity).

A little verbose but I did read it.
The tribe uses laws, institutions, etc. as the protective screen so no one individual is the crook.
So, even knowing the WHO doesn't make them accountable... Or that would have happened already.

fundamentally, all currency is actually based on power.

if you are the world hegemon, like the USA has been, you can print whatever fiat currency you want and become the worlds reserve currency because your power ensures stability.

people care about what their currency can buy. and if that is ONLY gold, then currency is not worth much.

instead, if you choose to base your currency on some tangible resource (such as gold or petrol)...what really happens is you inflate artificially the demand for that product. Thus william jennings brian, for example, ran on a platform to make US currency backed by silver...because that would be good for the agrarian people in the north and south US, who had plenty of silver but very little gold...as opposed to the east and west who had a lot of gold.

people who complain about currency stuff rarely seem to actually understand many of the finer points of it. I certainly am not an expert myself...but i do feel like i just happen to know more than the average 'goldbug'...

but yeah...ignoring WHO is in control of the financial system is stupid...and attempting to eliminate financial heirarchy is just as much a silly pipedream as trying to eliminate political hierarchy.

libertarians tend to be people who are silly enough to think that anarchy can possibly be a viable and stable system...rather than just a transition between two different elites.

Weird.  I could have written that - a close parallel to my view of currencies.  I view gold as I do any other currency, bitcoin included. About the only difference is that gold has a smattering of industrial worth; silver more so; platinum and palladium much more so.  Having a national currency allows those in power to tweak certain economic metrics that can't be done as easily with gold being the currency.  The trade-off is that tweaking your currency has consequences, much like the the Newtonian law of physics: "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction".   However, in economics, none of the econ-wonks can ever get a handle on all of the dependent variables, thus leading (almost always leading) to surprising, unintended consequences.

Yes, I chalk it up to arrogance and incompetence far more than some nefarious scheme to enrich a few by intentionally screwing the many.  That is likely where you and I depart in our interpretations.

Arrogance and incompetence? What a load of baloney.

So you think (((they))) just...somehow magically decide to turn on/off the spigots when it's time to inflate assets - which allows them to sell their property at high prices, right before turning off the money sprinkler once they've cashed out, so they can pick up assets for 20 cents on the dollar before repeating the cycle?

And that this is somehow a result of poor planning/decision making? (Keep in mind this is just one of several tricks possible)

lol...a **** 115 IQ midwit can pull off this trick and make a fortune just being a **** parasite/doing some (((financial engineering))) but you think (((they))) - people who have had CENTURIES of practice - can't pull this heist off?

Btw Gold is not a currency, it is a COMMODITY - a highly valued one, which is why (((they))) have raided countless countries over the past 5 centuries and either stole those nations' gold outright or tricked the stupid goyim into handing their gold coins over in exchange for "redeemable" paper notes. Nobody knows where the gold is stashed away in 2023 but the best guess is in some "tax haven" like Switzerland, hundreds of meters underground in top security vaults.

Only retarded libertarians (and people like them) stocked up on gold/silver en masse because they thought "the US Dollar" was going to collapse.

Yes, you are right. It's hard to pinpoint the exact individuals who are culpable.

In the old days you would just drag the whole lot of them out and...do (unspeakable by today's standards) some nasty things. Not a bad solution if you ask me.

Instead we get...people like (((SBF))) who are pseudo-celebrities.

Yeah, funny thing: the more "arrogant and incompetent" the elite are, the richer they seem to get.

"They".  Who, exactly is "They". The "Jews"?

Federal Reserve Governors:
  • Jerome Powell - not a Jew
  • Lael Brainard  - not a Jew
  • Michael S. Barr - probably not a Jew
  • Michelle Bowman - not a Jew
  • Lisa Cook -- Negroid, not a Jew
  • Philip Jefferson - Negroid, not a Jew
  • Christopher Walker - not a Jew
Recall, we were discussing currency and currency manipulation, which is basically the Federal Reserve in the United States.

I've known people that came to this country and are astounded that we have stores with items on a shelf.

Pure gold, ie 24K gold, currency is not practical, gold is too soft a metal for that. Nearly all gold currency has always been an alloy. Since the production of gold from mines is not a constant, the value of gold is also not a constant, and when production drops, that causes panics, recessions, and depressions. If you study the economic history of this country ( or the world, for that matter), it is easy to see that the results of a gold standard are severe economic crises every seven to ten years.
But this is a useless argument since there is ZERO chance that this country will ever go on a gold standard. Just as Libertarians actually being elected to any useful number in the government is also an impossibility.
