This is just a guess BUT maybe because it's thier country and it is being invaded by people that have F'd with since forever ?

Civilians fought on North Vietnam's side all the time...in the North and the South.

When Hitler proclaimed that upon taking Stalingrad all of the city’s male residents would be killed and its women deported, the stage was set for a bloody, hard-fought battle.  Stalin ordered all Russians strong enough to hold a rifle to take up arms in defense of the city.

Point 1:  My grandfather was a Soviet Jew and the border where he lived between Russia / USSR and Ukraine fluctuated. So when it came time to draw new lines...who knew what was what.  It was the same with the Candian / USA border.  It got to a point where the GOVs said pick your citizenship and they from there.

Point 2:  TO RECOGNIZE THE ARTIFICIALLY CONSTRUCTED BORDERS has been going on since the begining of time.  I don't want to get into it BUT look at Jerusalem.  It has occupied so many times there...how can anyone say what is what...there ? 

Point 3A:  NATO FORCED THOSE ETHNIC PEOPLES RIPPED FROM THEIR HOMELANDS...the Soviets did the same thing.  Again who can say what is what ?
