I think the regulatory agencies are captive and the beast is devouring its prey as we speak. I think the parasite is eyeballing a new host and getting ready to throw us over. Retirement at a given age requires a stable and predictable income - not a gamble.
It MAY be true that if granny holds, she'll get well. But that puts off granny's retirement - possibly until she dies. Which sort of kills the purpose of a retirement account. Work til ya die, THEN retire?
