Racism does exist, though not to the extent that the media and the politicians would have us believe.Warcok » 19 Feb 2023, 5:39 pm » wrote: ↑ It's a far left-wing myth/conspiracy theory that some people hate other people because of the color of their skin.
There has yet to be any evidence of the skin color bias.
"Systemic racism is a scientifically tractable phenomenon, urgent for cognitive scientists to address. This tutorial reviews the built-in systems that undermine life opportunities and outcomes by racial category, with a focus on challenges to Black Americans. From American colonial history, explicit practices and policies reinforced disadvantage across all domains of life, beginning with slavery, and continuing with vastly subordinated status. Racially segregated housing creates racial isolation, with disproportionate costs to Black Americans’ opportunities, networks, education, wealth, health, and legal treatment. These institutional and societal systems build-in individual bias and racialized interactions, resulting in systemic racism. Unconscious inferences, empirically established from perceptions onward, demonstrate non-Black Americans’ inbuilt associations: pairing Black Americans with negative valences, criminal stereotypes, and low status, including animal rather than human. Implicit racial biases (improving only slightly over time) imbed within non-Black individuals’ systems of racialized beliefs, judgments, and affect that predict racialized behavior. Interracial interactions likewise convey disrespect and distrust. These systematic individual and interpersonal patterns continue partly due to non-Black people’s inexperience with Black Americans and reliance on societal caricatures. Despite systemic challenges, Black Americans are more diverse now than ever, due to resilience (many succeeding against the odds), immigration (producing varied backgrounds), and intermarriage (increasing the multiracial proportion of the population). Intergroup contact can foreground Black diversity, resisting systemic racism, but White advantages persist in all economic, political, and social domains. Cognitive science has an opportunity: to include in its study of the mind the distortions of reality about individual humans and their social groups."Warcok » 19 Feb 2023, 5:39 pm » wrote: ↑ It's a far left-wing myth/conspiracy theory that some people hate other people because of the color of their skin.

Your own article seems to validate my previous post.
Systemic racism is a phenomena that exists in many large American cities and police departments that have been controlled by Democrat mayors and city councils since passage of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1965.
Because Reagan went to Mississippi and blew his dog whistle... right?slideman » 19 Feb 2023, 6:57 pm » wrote: ↑ And then there was the southern strategy and all those Democrats became Republicans.

Racism, by and large, is and has wained with each passing generation, and will continue to do so naturally. Hatred for another is taught, and I personally believe that constantly preaching division to the youth isn't helping. It's moving backwards.
When you tell a room full of elementary kids that little Tommy's great grandaddy probably owned little Deonte's great grand daddy and subjected him to the horrors of slavery, that's creating animosity not healing... in my opinion.
Healing is creating a society where Tommy and Deonte see each other as equals, and are treated as such. Telling Tommy he "owes" Deonte for his ancestors past transgressions is ridiculous. At that point you are pitting the two kids against each other, instead of bringing them together, and it's counterproductive.
I don't see preferring to keep company with your own race as being racist. It's just personal choice.RebelGator » 19 Feb 2023, 7:16 pm » wrote: ↑ I don't believe racism is taught, it's learned from first hand exposure, observational awareness, and personal desires.....I prefer to keep company with people like myself....is that racist, I think not.
White people have no reason to hate Black people.RedheadedStranger » 19 Feb 2023, 7:25 pm » wrote: ↑ I don't see preferring to keep company with your own race as being racist. It's just personal choice.
Now hating people not of your race, simply because of their race, is a whole other ball of wax.
Yep... it makes about as much sense as a white guy hating all blacks because a black guy robbed his grandaddy 80 years ago.ZiggyX » 19 Feb 2023, 7:33 pm » wrote: ↑ White people have no reason to hate Black people.
But Black people hate White people because of Slavery. It's a common bond.
What's funny, is that it doesn't matter if your ancestors fought on the Union side to free Blacks, your ancestors were Quakers that supported the Underground Railroad bringing Slaves to freedom, or that your ancestors arrived 50 years after the Civil War, ... they still hate you because you are 'white'.
Well that was a mouthful of stupidZiggyX » 19 Feb 2023, 7:33 pm » wrote: ↑ White people have no reason to hate Black people.

That brother working at the 7-11 today didn't have **** to do with that.
It's an honest assessment from someone from a part of the country that didn't have 'separate Drinking Fountains' or 'sit in the back of the Bus' rules. In San Diego, the mood was that we are all equal, all 'God's Children', all Brothers and Sisters. It was a rude awakening on my introduction to the 'Southern Mentality'. This guy hated me and there was nothing I could do about it.
You poor, guilt ridden bastard, all this time and you thought it was your fault.ZiggyX » 19 Feb 2023, 7:52 pm » wrote: ↑ It's an honest assessment from someone from a part of the country that didn't have 'separate Drinking Fountains' or 'sit in the back of the Bus' rules.
