RICHMOND, VA. — RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Authorities in the Virginia city where a 6-year-old shot and wounded his teacher will not seek criminal charges against the child, the local prosecutor told NBC News Wednesday, in a decision that was anticipated by legal experts.

But Newport News Commonwealth's Attorney Howard Gwynn said his office has yet to decide if any adults will be held criminally accountable.

Newport News police have said that the boy used his mother's 9mm handgun in the Jan. 6 shooting at Richneck Elementary School.

A lawyer for the child's mother has previously stated that the weapon, which was legally purchased, was secured on a high closet shelf and had a lock on it.

Gwynn did not immediately respond to two phone messages and two emails from The Associated Press seeking comment.

He told NBC that the “prospect that a 6-year-old can stand trial is problematic” because he wouldn’t have the competency to understand the legal system and what a charge means.

Gwynn told the news outlet that his office is still focusing on others besides the child.

Apparently the weapon was not secured well enough.
That's if it was secured at all.
The mother should be charged.

I work 5 minutes from that school in a warehouse with 1000 employees.  The people I work with in my department share your opinion.  Some had kids in that school.

There are other issues with this as well.

"On that day, over the course of a few hours, three different times - three times - school administration was warned by concerned teachers and employees that the boy had a gun on him at school and was threatening people," said Ms Toscano.According to Ms Toscano:
  • Around 12:30 a teacher reported she had searched the young boy's backpack believing he may have a gun. She did not find one, but told an official the boy may have put the gun in his pocket before going out for break. The official allegedly responded: "Well, he has little pockets."
  • Around 13:00 another teacher reported the boy had shown a child the gun and threatened to shoot him if he told
  • A different employee asked to search the boy and his backpack, but was told to wait because the school day was almost over

Let's talk about the real problem no one wants to address.  The school, Richneck Elementary School is over 75% Black.  Most likely the shooter and his baby-momma were Black.  Now, I could be wrong, because I can't find any mention at all about the race of the Mom.  But, the fact that they don't want to prosecute her says quite a bit about what color she is.

So, Misty, is this just another instance of violence perpetrated by out-of-control Blacks?  How come we didn't hear anything about the child's DAD?

I'm white, married and own way more guns than the 6-year-old's mom did.  I have a kid.  In fact, most everyone I know is a lot like me.  And, neither I nor those who are like me have any problem with a child getting a hold of a gun and killing someone.  Why is that, Misty?

I didn't follow the story, so thanks.  If you don't see any pics or medicatalk of the dad, then bet a cyber nickel they're black.

They haven't decided on the adults yet.

It's not uncommon for public schools to be indifferent to threats. Especially when listening to teachers. Teachers are stressed out because of the lack of support. This won't even be a wakeup call. I am actually pleased to see that teachers are quiting in masses. They don't deserve this kind of treatment.

Yes, the story left out a lot of information, didn't it.  Because if this was some white family, they would have given you everything on the dad including what he's posted to any forum he's been on lately.

At least I could find the name of the school, then look up the racial mix of the school.  And.......there it is!!

The problem is that it is the teachers who do not quit that are the ones you wouldn't want anywhere near your kids.

I have witnessed first hand the public school system here. It's part of my job. It's pointless. It shouldn't even exist because it can't do what it's intended to do...educate.

In Japan, it is considered a privilege to go to school.  They have a strict dress code.  Even hair is to be the same color - black. The students are required to clean their own classrooms, so they don't **** it up.

School is still a valid institution for teaching children, but we need to do it more like they do in Japan, and scrap the woke **** we have here.

I don't think they demand the same color hair. Japs have black hair by default. LOL.

But I see your point. They take education very seriously there. America doesn't. Lefties claim they take it serious, but only because they want access to the kids. Not because they think education and knowledge is important.

Actually, they do require uniform hair color.  Even if your natural hair color is something other than black, you will get a talking-to about conforming.  I just watched a program about how school is conducted in Japan.
