We have not had a Democratic politician in Florida with charisma since Gov Lawton Chiles.

DeSantis chose to choose a culture wars approach because it does not entail actually spending money to ban books and harass professors. Emotional issues are all that Republicans have.

Freedom to DeSantis has to do with wearing a mask.
But he wants to end tenure in state universities.  He wants to prevent teachers from having classroom libraries. He wants to prevent ex-cons from voting even though Floridians voted to restore them to the voting rolls unconditionally.

It's still to soon to tell at this point what's going to shake out. I think if Trump were to step aside and actually endorsed a DeSantis campaign in 2024, then DeSantis would be unstoppable... but right now, I just don't see that happening.

If Desantis is VP, then I don't know if he would end up POTUS later. Trump has a way of destroying people's reputations. Pence, for instance, is a good guy. That is true.

If DeSantis were to be Trump's VP, he would have to very carefully negotiate that minefield in order to survive. Trump tends to treat everyone beneath him as a lackey, and won't hesitate to squash them if they don't follow his lead without question.

Pence is a perfect example. Years ago I used to like Mike Pence, but I believe at this point that he has become part of the problem rather than part of any solution.

I think everyone in the government has passed that threshhold. Even the ones who haven't been in there for 40 years. LOL

It seems to happen at around the sixth term for House members, and the the second term for Senators.

Once they are up there more than 12 years, they owe so many debts/favors for getting that far, that they effectively become part of the mechanism and will start doing things against their own better judgement to maintain the position and grow their power.

T-rump pulled some shady ****, giving pharma the gun to murder millions with. DeSantis **** him off over it. 

That puts them on different sides of a pretty important hill.

Never forget that trump not only gave pharma the gun, but he also lined up and pretended to let them shoot him with it, publicly. DeSantis had the shot in private, IF he had it at all. And he never mandated it for anyone in his state - he refused to play the vax game like a good boy, as t-rump did. Not only did he never issue a mask mandate - DeSantis issued a mandate outlawing mask mandates statewide.

The difference between the two men is clear: DeSantis has no pharma cum dripping out of his gob. They **** trump's face like he was their bitch - and our faces using t-rump as a proxy.
