I think that eventually, people from Earth will visit Mars and live there. Only after acquiring a lot more data about the possibilities of actual terraforming Mars will it be decided whether to maintain permanent settlements there. Mars is a dead planet, not that much different than the Moon. Perhaps at one time there was more to it, but for whatever reason, it's dead. It would take a moon-sized ice-astroid colliding with Mars before there would be enough of what is needed to ever think about terraforming it. We would be better off colonizing the dusk-side of Mercury, where at least you could harvest the power of the sun to power things.Or, possibly Ganymede - at least Ganymede has an atmosphere of a thin layer of Oxygen.

Somewhere in the "dusk" region (safer than the dawn region) there is a surface temperature of 40 degrees F to 90 degrees F.
