The longest bankruptcy case in history is over.  Boy Scouts of America filed for protection under Chapter 11 in February 2020. Today, the last appeal of the approved restructuring plan was dismissed as frivolous. 

The plan establishes the largest compensation fund in history...at the time it was agreed upon ($2.4 billion), which was possible after even plaintiff attorneys acknowledged that some 58,000 of the 80,000 new claims probably could not be supported in court for various reasons, so they agreed to a lower settlement amount (and realistically, nobody wanted to be the ones to fight the claims in public).  A key point in the plan agreed to by all parties is BSA is free from any and all abuse claims, known or unknown, that occurred prior to the date the plan was approved.

Now the next very difficult phase starts...building back the financial stability and reserves of the organization.

@Xavier_Onassis  claims to be an Eagle Scout.  What says he about this?  I was never in the Boy Scouts.

Eagle Scout @Xavier_Onassis  molested his scout masters.

There was no molesting in the Boy Scouts that I belonged to.
It was a very beneficial organization to belong to. There were Merit Badges that were really educational, and they put me in contact with a lot of really interesting people that I would never have met otherwise. I was on the Staff at Camp Osceola, and spent a summer on the kitchen staff at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

I know several people that say only good things about their experiences Scouting.

As with all things...it depends on the adult leaders. A Scout troop that follows the rules, has a active program, involved adults and a commitment to (when I was a Scout leader) the boys will be a strong troop and will "create" Eagle Scouts. The problem many units encountered was when their "older" Scouts felt they had to choose between Scouts and extracurricular school activities.  The adults also need to help the kids design the right program (and the youth should tell the adults what they want to do...not vice versa).

Simple rules we followed;

- If coming from a school practice, what you wore to practice was considered your "first class" uniform for that meeting.  That encourage the active (and good) students to stay active in Scouting.
- Except for breakfast, no patrol could have the same meal more than once every six months and supper must be a cooked meal.  This encourage the kids to learn how to cook.
- The troop went camping every month...period.  Unless there was a severe weather warning near our camp, we went.  If it was going to rain, better bring rain gear...if it was going to be VERY COLD, better bring winter gear.

During our planning meetings, the youth had to design weekend programs that were centered around merit badges...then the adults came up with things to do that helped them earn that badge.  We also made it interesting...every year the older Scouts wanted to do orienteering...so the newer Scouts spent the weekend learning the basics and following simple courses while the older Scouts did challenging course.  We might combine that weekend with first aid and have another troop camp with us.  That way on Saturday one troop could be victims of "disasters" and the other troop had to find, treat and evac the victims...then switch roles on Sunday.  We would use moulage techniques to make the injuries more realistic.  Hell, we even had a local CareFlight team do training once with the Scouts calling them in.

FYI...related to the reason for the bankruptcy, the overwhelming majority of abuse claims came from one organization.

I remember as a little kid. My folks dragging me thru like a huge Boyscott expose- it was like a farmers market in the olden days.... tents that were all connected. I remember going thru one... and it was a fake leg bone break- the bone was sticking out of the leg- all bloody.
hey if i'm f-d up. Blame it on my parents! They also made me see Rosemary's baby at the drive in.
